    To help facilitate continuous improvement of Powin’s battery energy storage system we are looking for a technically savvy and intellectually curious Hardware (HW) Test Technician. The ideal candidate for this role has extensive hands on experience in hardware and system testing/debugging and hand off to Manufacturing.

    As the HW Test Technician you will be working with HW Test Engineers to test all HW components of the battery energy storage system including: battery cell characterization; PCBA thermal/electrical/environmental testing; mechanical testing; and communication verification.

    The HW Test Technician will be an integral member of a growing Product and Engineering team that is expanding and developing at a rapid rate.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Be familiar with and ready to use as required: multi-meters; oscilloscopes; analyzers; digital analysis tools; machine tools; soldering equipment; and general hand tools.
    • Understand and work from detailed PCBA schematics, blueprints, diagrams, as well as verbal and written instructions.
    • Find bugs, identify root cause and record all pertinent information for sharing with other team members.
    • Responsible for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project.
    • Schedule testing activities for an assigned project, estimate required hours and track actual vs. estimated time, assist with and resolve scheduling problems for assigned project and determine feasibility.
    • Be able to lift 50 lbs.
    • Develop process and test recommendations for the Manufacturing QC team.
    • Responsible to perform other tasks as business needs require or as assigned by management.

    Required Skills:

    • Strong Electrical Engineering fundamentals.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with HW lab/test equipment.
    • Works independently.
    • Battery testing experience is a strong plus, but not required.

    This is an on-site, full-time salaried position located in our Tualatin, OR office. Powin will be moving operations into SE Portland within the year. Compensation depends on prior experience.     Powin’s Product Engineering team is seeking a Manager of Software Development. The Manager of Software Development will be responsible for leading a small team of software developers who are tasked with writing code, writing unit tests, and working collaboratively with Powin’s Quality Assurance team. The perfect candidate for this role has significant Java experience. The role is hands on, reports directly to the Head of Product Engineering, and assists with developing, refining, and advancing Powin’s battery energy storage technology for use in the next generation of the grid.

    Powin’s Product and Engineering team is seeking a top tier QA Lead/SDET to take our full stack testing to the next level. Powin’s ideal QA Lead/SDET will possess experience in simulation and testing of web services in an Agile team environment and Java development. Additionally, they will have familiarity with Linux environments. The QA Lead/SDET will work with the Lead Automation Engineer and other Product Engineering colleagues to develop feature and functionality automated tests. This role will be an integral part of a Product and Engineering team that is going through some very exciting growth and development.

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Develop and document test code
    • Design, develop, and document sophisticated test automation class libraries for backend processing, simulation of different layers within the system, and testing of the total system
    • Work with Lead Automation Engineer to develop new testing frameworks for future products and features
    • Make the hard-to-test easy by driving changes into the application under test with requirements for test methods, fixtures, mocks, detection mechanisms, and other utilities
    • Participate in code review of standards, procedures, tools, and QA processes
    • Double check the diligence of teammates by reviewing their automated test cases to help find and address gaps
    • Maintain automated regression suites/packages to be compliant with changing requirements and features

    Qualifications

    • BS in Computer Science or a related field; professional experience may substitute for formal education
    • QA industry certifications are a plus
    • Current coding experience
    • Demonstrated knowledge of testing one or more of the following: API interfaces, databases/data stores, analytics
    • Experience in a Linux environment
    • Docker or similar container experience is a strong plus
    • Experience working on large scale distributed systems or relational/NoSQL databases
    • Strong knowledge of Automation Frameworks such as Junit, TestNG, and Selenium

    Powin’s Product Engineering team is looking for an experienced Black Box / Grey Box QA Tester capable of defining and executing test plans at the macro system level for UI testing, data flow verification, system control & monitoring, as well as manual testing of lower level FW/HW interfaces. This tester will also work with the QA automation team and HW test team to define required tests and test tools. All of this will be done within an Agile team environment.

    The perfect candidate for this role has experience as a Black Box tester with a tendency to view testing from a holistic / macro lens as well as a micro detail lens. Test plans must reflect both of these viewpoints.

    As the QA Black Box Tester, you will learn the Powin Software, Hardware, and Services products in order to test and maintain functional UI and system control frameworks. You will be building and maintaining a battery of manual tests that will ensure the highest level of system quality possible.

    You will be a key part of a growing Product and Engineering team that is going through some really exciting growth and development.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Develop and document test plans and test cases at the system level and at lower levels as required.
    • Maintain an organized library of tests and know which ones to execute for various levels of testing (i.e. have a set of “smoke tests”, a set of positive functionality UI tests, a set of failure UI tests, etc.). Also maintain these tests to be compliant with changing requirements and features as the product evolves.
    • Participate in code review of standards, procedures, tools, and QA processes.
    • Double-check the diligence of your teammates by reviewing their test cases to help find and address gaps.

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrated knowledge of testing one or more of the following: UI, API interfaces, databases / data stores, analytics.
    • Experience in a Linux environment.
    • Experience working on large scale distributed systems or relational/NoSQL databases.
    • 3+ years of Black Box Testing Experience

    Responsibilities:

    • Monitor and operate the system according to the operation procedure and/or market bidding awards or bilateral agreements with grid utilities to maximize availability/revenue.
    • Maintain a daily log of monitoring, operation and maintenance performed, outages, changes in operating status, inspections and any other significant events.
    • Manage stakeholders, customers, and maintenance support.
    • Monitor, report, and make recommendations for improvement.
    • Schedule routine inspection and maintenance for global projects.
    • Overtime/on-call will be required with notice.

    Qualifications

    • A minimum of a two-year college degree in Electrical Technology, other engineering related degree, or equivalent experience.
    • Experience handling multiple tasks – at various stages of completion – simultaneously without losing track of the details under both normal and stressful conditions.

    Powin is currently increasing its Operations Division staff. The Field Engineer position plays a key role in Powin’s organization and is critical to operational success. The ideal Field Engineer candidate is a talented individual with a desire to explore uncharted territory and take on the challenge of building the next energy infrastructure. The candidate who will flourish in this role will be: a quick learner; comfortable with multi-tasking; and detail-oriented. Most importantly the candidate will understand the importance of getting the job done right the first time.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Track onsite system issues and work closely with the engineering and QC team to achieve resolution prior to commissioning
    • Provide technical support and onsite training to construction contractors for system installation
    • Work with PCS, meter and other equipment providers on equipment commissioning
    • Perform PE DC battery examinations/inspections, identify issues and errors, and run final commissioning
    • Work with the system operations team to fix issues or address potential issues
    • Provide system training to service contractors
    • Complete periodic system inspection and maintenance or assist service contractors with the same
    • Assist with spare parts inventory management
    • Assist with planning and managing site logistics
    • Assist with preparation and managing of operational schedules, including detailed commissioning schedules, and ensure all milestone activities take place on or ahead of schedule
    • Attend and actively participate in project meetings, including contractor and subcontractor meetings
    • Prioritize safety, lead safety meetings, analyze job hazards, and provide prompt resolution of hazards

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field preferred
    • Experience with creating and maintaining project schedules related to electrical construction
    • Ability to use electrical test equipment such as DMM, meggers, and multi-process calibration equipment
    • Working knowledge of and experience operating under OSHA 1910.269, NFPA 70E, and 70B
    • Ability to read electrical and/or mechanical drawings and specifications and understand terms and conditions of Project Contracts, Subcontracts, and Purchase Orders
    • Strong computer skills and experience with MS Office software (including Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, Power Point), Jira, Confluence, and other collaboration and project management tools
    • Experience with Linux and Putty (should be able to configure Linux based computers and use command line and Linux based text editors)
    • Agility with learning new software
    • Demonstrated ability to build positive partnerships and work collaboratively with members of a project team, contractors and subcontractors
    • Excellent verbal and written communication, time management and organizational skills
    • Wind turbine, solar, or battery storage installation experience preferred
    • Startup experience is a plus
    • Travel to customer locations is required
